One hundredth is one of 100 equal parts. The figure below shows 100 squares. One of these 100 squares shown in red is one hundredth.

We do not need to use 100 squares. We could also use 200 squares and then color 2 squares to show one hundredth since 2/200 can be simplified as 1/100.

If you color 1 square out of 100 squares, one hundredth is equal to 1/100

If you color 2 squares out of 200 squares (2×100), one hundredth is equal to 2/200

If you color 3 squares out of 300 squares (3×100), one hundredth is equal to 3/300

If you color n squares out of 100n squares, one hundredth is equal to n/100n
