What does Divisible Mean ?

One number is divisible by another number if their quotient is an integer and the remainder is 0.

For example, can 16 people play soccer with no one being left out and each team has an equal number of players ?

When no one is left out, this means that the remainder is 0.

A soccer team will have two teams. Therefore, we must divide 16 by 2.

If no one is being left out when we divide 16 by 2, then 16 is divisible by 2.

16  ÷ 2 = 8

The quotient is 8. 8 is an integer and the remainder is 0.

Therefore, 16 is divisible by 2
